Philip Levine has been a long time champion of LGBT rights in Miami Beach. Under his leadership, in 2014, Miami Beach became the first city in Florida to pass transgender inclusive healthcare for city employees. Philip has ensured the City continues to set the bar for LGBT equality and has maintained a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s “Municipal Equality Index”. Philip has also been instrumental building critical business support for LGBT equality and has been an unyielding advocate for our community in his public and private life. When marriage first became legal in January of this year, Philip officiated some of the first legal same-sex weddings in the state. Philip has received a 100% rating on our candidate questionnaire and has also been endorsed by SAVE, the AFL-CIO, and the Firefighters of Miami Beach Local 1510.

Scott Diffenderfer has a long record of service in the LGBT community. He spent years working to raise funds for HIV/Aids organizations, he served on the board of the Dade Human Rights Foundation which made grants to LGBT causes, and he served on the Miami Beach gay business development committee where he was part of the effort to bring the Gay Pride Parade to Miami Beach. If elected Scott would be the only LGBT member of the commission providing an important perspective to discussions of equality. Scott has a 100% rating on our questionnaire and is running a highly competitive campaign in a six way race. He also has been endorsed by SAVE and the AFL-CIO.
